![]() ![]() Using a small theater in surprisingly versatile and creative ways, Pacifica tamed a very beastly musical and made it into a pleasant and enthusiastic production. As Audrey II made its final growth into a behemoth-size monster the voice grew deeper and sonorous, filling the theater with a voice reminiscent of God. In the Little Nightmares story, one of the children aboard The Maw tosses Six a piece of bread. The plant spoke in a deep rasping Louisiana drawl, ideally complementing the vine-filled, sprawling vegetation. This was evident in the scene between Cobb and his boss, Mushnik ( Dakota Hill), which garnered the loudest laughter from the audience as the two sang their absurdly silly duet in “Mushnik and Son.”Īudrey II, the murderous plant behind the whole debacle, was masterfully operated by puppeteer Joey Stoner and voiced by Stoner and Brian Soto. ![]() His quirky physicality, character progression and comedic timing more than made him stand out. The individuality he gave each character and the effortless slide from one to the next quickly made him the audience’s favorite.Īs the nervous, twitching, aspiring botanist Seymour, Alex Cobb was absolutely grand at letting his emotions flow as the flower shop’s situation grew from dull to exciting to dangerously dire. Appearing first as a dirty beggar and later transformed into the sadistic dentist Orin, who is Audrey’s boyfriend, he also played four other minor roles, sometimes disappearing behind the scenes for no more than 20 seconds before popping out with an entirely new persona. Her spotlight moment comes in “Somewhere That’s Green,” in which the usually delicate woman expresses her earnest desire for so much more than she has been given and her love for Seymour. Melody Espinoza as Audrey was a highlight of the show with her beautifully soft vocals. A bloodthirsty plant, a desire for greater things in life and star-crossed love tangle themselves together in a darkly comedic and nicely arranged production of “Little Shop of Horrors” at Pacifica High School in Garden Grove. ![]()
